Today when a Chinese friend told me that the water would be “stopped” for three days – I understood her words, but the whole “three days” seemed so outrageous that I was certain I was having a bad language day and even simple phrases were not making sense to me.
I asked her, “what do you mean?” (The sneaky way of getting someone to say the same thing, but a slightly different way, so that you have a higher likelihood of understanding them.) Same result, I heard “three days, no shower, no flushing, no bath (for the kids), no washing or cleaning…”
Then I found a report in Chinese on the internet, and thanks to “http://translate.google.com” I was able to confirm what my brain was having a hard time believing.
Yesterday, reporters from the city water company was informed that tomorrow the city water system Plant will stop production for three days.
Fantastic.

Hi! I'm Steve Webel and this is my blog. Thanks for stopping by!

Sweet … time to fill up those big tupperwares!
Did they give any reason???
You know it, I’ve got buckets (thanks to my fish tank hobby) full of water all over the place… WE WILL FLUSH!
Jennifer – yes they did. We live in the corridor that goes through central China between Guangzhou and Beijing. They are building a new, high speed, rail line between these two cities and the construction has reached our city.
So, for whatever reason, the construction of this train track means they have to cut the main line between the reservoir / water plant and our city. It seems all our water comes from the one source.
note: The water was supposed to be off by now, but it’s currently still on. There was a note that said if there was bad weather, they may delay the outage. We had really really hard rain this afternoon. So maybe it will go off some time tomorrow?
I guess its time to pray for more rain, eh?
Well, it’s raining today. Raining really hard too!
We still have tap water.
This is a mixed blessing. We know that there is a three day period in our future with no running water – but now we have no idea when that is gonna be!
A positive note: The girls are completely accustomed to buckets of water in every bathroom and no longer ask me fifty thousand questions about their presence and if they can get in them…
